YouTube University – Where else?
Although I’ve had experience playing violin songs in the far past, I could not seem to take on the violin like one does a bicycle. There were a few basics I needed to re-learn.
- left hand/finger position
- bowing
- reading notes
There are many videos of helpful Youtuber violinists. After searching many videos, I found a good starting point to address all three issues I listed above.
The Online Violin And Piano Tutor channel has a playlist for beginning violin students. I accessed the playlist here:
Alison (the violin tutor) put together 20 start up videos that helped me get started. Lessons 5 – 8 are very useful in learning notes in particular. She also provides pdfs of the exercises at her patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/theonlinepianotutor. These exercises address all three points – finger positions, bowing, and note reading.
