Last weekend I ran into someone who was selling a student violin for only $25.00 with the case and bow. I decided to buy it to get my itch for violin restoration a little try.
I cleaned off the marks on the finger board and after a long process of adjusting the strings and tailpiece, I tried playing. I discovered how handicapped I had become without my finger guide. It was a bit discouraging to be honest. But I’m not one to give up. From today on I will be training myself to play without the finger board guide. I just have to start from square one.
I am currently at song 11 (Andantino) in the Suzuki Book 1 method. But I will hold off on learning further songs until I learn how to play without the fingerboard guide.
So currently my goals are:
- Train my left hand to play without guidance.
- Train my right hand and arm to relax and play a straight bow.
Let’s see how I do for the next video recording, which is “Go Tell Aunt Rhody”
