In the last year I’ve also learned a lot about the violin itself. As I mentioned in my one year review of my first violin, I’ve learned enough to know what makes a good quality violin. As a result, I was able to find a beautiful beginner violin that is much easier to play than my first violin. I purchased this violin through my local violin shop, Benning Violins located in Studio City. I’m glad I did. I learned that they usually optimize every manufactured violin they receive. For example, for the violin i purchased, the bridge has been well adjusted. It’s actually a very beautifully carved bridge which has the Benning Violins stamp in the back of it.
While I was at the shop I also noticed that the pegs were very stiff and difficult to turn – so at that moment, they were able to adjust the pegs so that the violin would be easier to tune. The only part of this outfit that I don’t like is the bow. It’s a fiber glass bow that tends to be heavy and a little difficult to tighten. Therefore, I still use my favorite bow instead, which is the carbon fiber Artino bow. This happens to be the same bow I purchased last year through Benning Violins as well. I love this bow. Overall, I really enjoy playing my new violin, it has a beautiful sound, it looks beautiful, and it’s easy to play. I’m sure I’m set for the next 2-3 years.
